Clear the Air Foundation (CtAF) was founded in 2007 to facilitate the reduction of polluting emissions by taking dilapidated vehicles and recycling them, then donating the money as scholarships. While most of our cars come as trade-ins from car dealerships and are valued at under $1,000, we accept cars in all conditions from any source. In addition to this, we cover the cost of transportation and most of the paperwork. In this manner, we’ve been able to harvest over 3,500 vehicles and keep them from further polluting our air. CtAF is a nonprofit organization that really cares about Colorado’s air quality.
When we recycle a vehicle, it’s parted out. This is how we generate revenue to give back to the community. But not all the parts are sold. The engine block is always destroyed, rendering the vehicle inoperable. All the vehicles that go through our auto recycling are entered into the National Motor Vehicle Title Information System as ‘scrapped’; ensuring that titles can no longer be issued for the Vehicle Identification Number.
To begin the car donation process, a donor contacts us with all the pertinent information about the vehicle: make, model, VIN, year, and location. We then reach out to a recycler to haul away the vehicle, at no expense to the donor. The recycler pays us fair market value for the automobile, and then it is liquidated. This money is used primarily for scholarships, which are given to Automotive Technician students in Colorado.
In 2018 Clear the Air Foundation granted $50,000 in scholarships fueled by auto recycling. We take the initiative and collaborate with Snap-on Tools and Matco Tools student discount program, along with educational foundations who match matched our funds with COSI grants, to expand the initial scholarships value to $93,000.
Founded 2007, Clear the Air Foundation strives to lessen pollution emitted by old or decrepit vehicles by taking them off Colorado’s roads as vehicle donations. Clear the Air Foundation supports charities that are dedicated to helping Colorado’s citizens who suffer from environment-related health issues, such as asthma and other breathing disorders. Incorporated under the laws of the State of Colorado, Clear the Air Foundation is a corporation for charitable purposes 501(c)(3) and not for financial profit. We are honored to serve the citizens and communities of the great state of Colorado.
